Medicare annual open enrollment is upon us! Every year this time period is from Oct 15 until December 7th. So what does this mean for you?

Your life and needs may change, healthcare plans may  change and that means you may also need to make changes in your Medicare plan. The open enrollment period is a time for you to do just that! Any changes that you enact go into effect on January 1 of the next year. If you decide to keep your existing plan you automatically renew. We highly suggest you review your coverage annually.

What are the changes you can make during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period?

  • You can change from Original Medicare (Parts A & B) to Medicare Advantage (Part C)
  • You can switch from One Medicare Advantage Plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan
  • You can join, change or drop a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D) Note: be aware that you may be charged a penalty if you drop Part D and decide to add it back later.

Additional decisions you can make include adding a stand alone prescription drug plan and the consideration of a Medicare supplement insurance plan for coverage for items that original Medicare does not cover, like deductibles, copays and coinsurance.

If you miss the annual enrollment period you may have to wait until next year to adjust your coverage.

Reach out to the Health Plans of NC agent on this webpage now for an appointment if you’d like to review  your coverage,  if you are planning on making some changes or if you’d like some additional information.
